Vol. 226 No. 5

Written Answers. - Council of Europe Resolutions.

28.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what is the attitude of the Government with regard to Resolution 319 on Relations between the Consultative Assembly and National Parliaments, which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 26th September 1966; and, in particular, what action he contemplates taking on paragraph 7 (b) (i) of this Resolution.

It is my practice to present the Dáil in the annual Estimates for my Department with an account of the part played by Ireland in the Council of Europe and the opportunity is afforded to Deputies to discuss Council of Europe matters in the course of that debate. The Resolution is, therefore, already being largely implemented as far as the Government is concerned. I shall, of course, have regard to the contents of the Resolution in this context in future.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what is the attitude of the Government with regard to Resolution 321 on the general policy of the Council of Europe which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 28th September, 1966; and what action the Government have taken, or contemplate taking, on it.

The Government are in general sympathy with the sentiments expressed in Resolution 321 on the general policy of the Council of Europe. The Resolution, however, does not call for any specific action by the Government.
