Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tullamore Industry.

167.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will direct the special attention and consideration of all industrialists both at home and abroad to the possibilities of establishing a worthwhile industry in Tullamore, County Offaly, where large numbers of unemployed seek work and where sites and local capital are available; if he will meet and have discussions with any local interests who bring proposals before him; and if he will keep this important midland town in mind for future industrial development.

As the Deputy is aware, the selection of a location for an industry is ultimately one for the promoters and those investing their capital in the proposed undertaking. The Government have provided valuable facilities to encourage the establishment and development of industries in all areas. It is for private enterprise to take advantage of these facilities and local interests should do their best to encourage private enterprise to set up industries in their own areas. I am aware, that the Industrial Development Authority has had several discussions with members of the Tullamore Town Development Association and other interested parties about the attraction of further industry to the town. I can assure the Deputy that the facilities available will be brought to the notice of promoters who might be interested in Tullamore as a location.
