Vol. 226 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Re-classification of Roads.

46.

asked the Minister for Local Government what progress has been made with the re-classification of roads; and when he expects this work to be completed.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to him to a question on the same subject on 23rd February, 1965. Since that date considerable progress has been made and much detailed information has been obtained as a result of surveys and censuses carried out throughout the country. I hope to have the re-classification completed at an early date.

I would however remind the Deputy that the task of re-classification is a highly complex and time-consuming undertaking which I propose to have done in as up-to-date, accurate and comprehensive a manner as possible.

Could the Minister say whether this re-classification is taking place on a regional basis and would he be in a position in the near future to announce to individual counties and regions the results of this re-classification?

There are two different types of survey: there is a national system and the regional system. There is also a county system.

Could the Minister say when County Dublin will be done?

I would not undertake to take any area out of its order.

The Minister knows the implications of it for the county?

Yes, similar to other counties.

No, it is not similar. As the Minister knows, it is exceptional. We carry the traffic of the country.

No, only some of it.

The bulk of it.
