Vol. 226 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Arterial Road Grants.

47.

asked the Minister for Local Government the items which are excluded from the 100 per cent arterial road grants.

The 100 per cent arterial road grants are allocated from the Road Fund on the basis that the full cost of works of improvement on the arterial routes, as approved by my Department, is recouped to the road authorities. Additional items which may be charged against the cost of improvement schemes for the purpose of recoupment from grant include costs of land acquired and incorporated in the approved schemes; legal costs incidental to land acquisition; costs of compensatory works; costs of necessary alterations to public services, that is, water, sewerage, gas, electricity and telephone services; costs of engineering, supervisory and design staff recruited for and/or specially assigned to the planning and design of arterial road improvement works.

Unauthorised expenditure, arising, for example, from unauthorised departures from designs or specifications, is not recouped. Administrative overheads of a clerical nature are not recouped.

And travelling expenses?

I think they would be, if they related to the work.
