Vol. 226 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Money Allocation to Firm.

72.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if a firm (name supplied) have received any State funds; if so, the total amount granted; the amount already repaid; and what arrangements have been made for the repayment of the balance due to the State.

73.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the date upon which a firm (name supplied) informed his Department of their intention to close their premises in Dublin, and if there is any immediate prospect of another type of industry opening on this ideal location.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 72 and 73 together.

Industrial grants were approved by An Foras Tionscal for the firm as follows: £250,000 towards the cost of fixed assets of which £136,500 has been paid; and £40,000 in respect of the training of workers which has been paid in full.

There has, as yet, been no repayment made on foot of these grants but the firm has agreed that when production ceases, they will repay to An Foras Tionscal the grant made towards the cost of fixed assets.

The firm advised my Department on 14th February, 1967, of their intention to cease production. I understand that the firm propose to phase out the close down and, while there is no immediate prospect of another type of industry opening up on the location, the Deputy may be assured that the question of securing an alternative industry for the factory will be actively pursued by the Industrial Development Authority.
