Vol. 227 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emergency Accident Services.

51.

asked the Minister for Health whether it is his intention to proceed with the establishment of emergency accident services based on four Dublin hospitals, in view of the present unplanned position.

Discussions have been proceeding between my Department and the Accident Committee set up by the Irish Medical Association to study this problem. Arising out of these discussions, a pilot scheme under which a night time accident or emergency case dealt with by Dublin Fire Brigade Ambulance Service is conveyed to one of five selected hospitals, working on a rota system, is at present in operation. This trial scheme is due to conclude before Easter, and when the results have been analysed and studied by the authorities concerned, it is hoped that it will be possible to reach agreement about suitable long-term arrangements which will represent an advance on the service available heretofore.
