Vol. 227 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Sewerage Scheme.

11.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will explain the delay in providing a new sewerage scheme in Blacklion, County Cavan; and if he will take steps to have the work started without further delay in view of the fact that there is urgent need for a proper sewerage system in the town.

I understand that the Cavan County Council have now re-advertised this scheme for tenders.

(Cavan): When was it first advertised?

A tender for the scheme was approved by my Department on 17th June, 1964.

(Cavan): Will the Minister urge on all concerned to get on with the business now?

The contractor failed to obtain a bond and it was decided to re-advertise the contract.

(Cavan): Was it not a bit absurd to give the contractor from 1964 to 1967 to complete a bond?

It might have been convenient.

It was re-advertised, another tender was approved and that contractor could not get a bond either. This is the third time it has been advertised.

(Cavan): When was the second one advertised?

The second tender was approved on 10th May, 1965.

(Cavan): Is the trouble not that there has been a lot of stalling?

The fact of the matter is that two contractors failed to get bonds.
