Vol. 227 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Walkinstown Cross (Dublin) House Site.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government with whom the Dublin County Council is in negotiation for the acquisition of a site for a house to replace the one to be demolished at Walkinstown Cross; when the negotiations commenced; when they will be completed; and the location of the site.

This is the question Deputy Dunne was talking about a moment ago. I understand from Dublin County Council that negotiations for the acquisition of portions of the plots of vested cottages in the city area fronting on to Ballymount Road, in order to provide a site for the house referred to were opened by the council with the tenant-purchasers concerned in September, 1966 and concluded last month.

Would the Minister tell me if this is the site which the person in question indicated some ten years ago he wanted to have his own house built on?

I do not know.

I put it to the Minister it is. If this is not incompetence and inefficiency on the part of Dublin County Council, I do not know what it is.

How many people live in this house?

One person.

It is a very serious matter, as the Minister is very fully aware. How soon does he think this long-standing problem may be resolved and this dangerous crossing put into a proper condition?

Negotiations for the acquisition of the property concerned have now been concluded so there should not be any further delay.

Dublin County Council are to blame.

Negotiations have concluded.

The money is not available or will not be for years.

The money has been agreed.

When will it be paid?

They only concluded the negotiations last month. Presumably there will be very little further delay.

It will be years. If the negotiations have only concluded, it will take years.
