Vol. 227 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New CIE Buses.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of new buses purchased recently by Córas Iompair Éireann; the purchase price of them; and the average mileage per gallon being done by these buses.

CIE import unassembled bus chassis and build bodies for the buses at Inchicore. There is a continuous output of new buses for replacement purposes. The current programme provides for the production of 320 Atlantean doubledeck buses which will take more than two years to complete.

The number of new units added to the CIE road passenger fleet in the year ended 31st March, 1966 is shown in the annual report of the Board, namely, eight double deck buses; 182 "C" type single deck buses; and two minibuses.

The total cost of additional and replacement buses in the same year was £1,347,000 as shown in the annual accounts.

The other information sought by the Deputy is confidential.
