Vol. 227 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Farms.

54.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will give particulars of all farms in the possession of the Land Commission in County Meath, giving the date of acquisition and proposed date of distribution.

The current season's land settlement programme, which has been gathering momentum in recent months, is now at its peak. This means that the position regarding lands taken over by the Land Commission for division throughout the country generally is rapidly changing from day to day. For that reason statistics on the lines requested, if compiled as of now, would be very quickly out of date.

In the circumstances, perhaps the Deputy would repeat the question in about a month's time, when a more realistic assessment of the position should be feasible.

The Parliamentary Secretary knows that that is a lot of cod. He could easily have given the position as of now.

The Parliamentary Secretary does not accept that it is all cod. In fact, it is well known that at this particular period of the year there is very heavy allotment and even if the Deputy got the information today, it could be changed when reports come up from the inspectors.

Am I to take it that the Land Commission decide to allot farms today and that they are allotted tomorrow? Is it not the position that the decisions are made months beforehand and could the Parliamentary Secretary not have given the information as it was asked for? That would have covered the whole thing.

55.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of the past five years the number and location of all farms allotted in County Meath of over £40 poor law valuation, giving the poor law valuation of each of such farms separately.

The official records are not compiled in a manner which includes the rateable valuation of lands allotted by the Land Commission. The position in this regard is that when an estate is divided by the Land Commission, details of the various allotments are furnished to the Valuation Office and the apportionment of the total estate valuation is then carried out by that Office. Particulars of the area and location of all new holdings allotted by the Land Commission in County Meath during the past five complete financial years are contained in a tabular statement which I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:
