Vol. 227 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment on Kerry Forestry Scheme.

61.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Forestry Division of his Department will give special consideration to persons from the Clonkeen and Clydagh areas near Killarney for employment in the forestry development scheme about to commence in the Clydagh Valley, County Kerry.

While my Department are prepared to consider persons from the Clydagh and Clonkeen areas for employment in the Clydagh valley, I understand that for the season of the year when major work will be in progress these areas can be reached only by a detour of over 25 miles which would make such employment inconvenient for the persons concerned. The whole question is a difficult one and I would be reluctant to give any positive assurances.
