Vol. 227 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Closure of Finglas (Dublin) Factory.

101.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, having regard to the fact that £176,500 has been paid by way of industrial grants to a firm (name supplied) in Finglas, Dublin and to the stated intention of this undertaking to cease production, he will now state what positive steps have been taken, or are under consideration, with a view to securing an alternative industry managed by this firm or some other undertaking on their factory site, with maximum utilisation of the labour force under threat of redundancy.

I have nothing to add to the reply given to a question by the Deputy on 23rd February, 1967, to the effect that the possibility of securing an alternative industry for the factory to be vacated by this firm will be actively pursued by the Industrial Development Authority.

Has the Minister had any discussion with this firm recently and, if so, what was the outcome?

I am sure he has.

Then surely he has something to add to the reply to that question?

The firm is not due to close down for some time yet. The close down is being phased out and I am quite sure the Minister is having discussions with them all the time.
