Vol. 227 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Indebtedness of Harbour Authorities.

10.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the total indebtedness of harbour authorities on 31st March, 1967; and the present annual cost of servicing it.

No accounts have yet been furnished by harbour authorities scheduled under the Harbours Act, 1946, in respect of the year ended 31st March, 1967, and very few accounts in respect of the year ended 31st December, 1966. The calendar year is the accounting year for the majority of the harbour authorities.

The total indebtedness in the calendar year 1965 of all scheduled harbour authorities was approximately £2,940,000 and the cost of servicing in that year was approximately £190,900.

Harbour authorities are required under the Harbours Act, 1946, to keep copies of their audited accounts available for inspection by interested parties on payment of a fee of one shilling.

Why can they not have the figures up to date?

The figures take some time to prepare. They eventually come through and are submitted to me.
