Vol. 228 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo School.

50.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that a temporary school which was provided about two years ago for the schoolchildren of Treenbeg, Newport, County Mayo was blown down by storms last December; and what steps he proposes to take to have a new school provided for the children of this area.

Mr. O'Malley

At present there are only 28 pupils on the roll of this school and the indications are that in a few years the enrolment would fall to about 20. Accordingly, on educational and other grounds the provision of a new school would not be warranted.

I am satisfied, therefore, that the school should be amalgamated with larger schools in the parish and my Department is proceeding on that basis.

Extermination, promised by the Minister.
