Vol. 228 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage to Irish Industry.

59.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his Department have kept any record of complaints from industries which have found their business interests damaged by the Free Trade Agreement; what assistance has been offered by his Department to such industries; and the industries from which he has received complaints.

It would not be possible without a breach of confidence for me to give the names of industries that approach my Department concerning problems or difficulties arising for them out of the operation of the Free Trade Agreement. All such approaches receive careful and sympathetic consideration and any action that may be possible is taken to assist the industries concerned.

Complaints of the kind the Deputy has in mind have been few. The Agreement contains provisions for dealing with difficulties should they arise in particular sectors.
