Vol. 228 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rush (Dublin) Dental Facilities for Children.

62.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that children needing dental attention in the Rush area must travel to Swords by the 8.15 a.m. bus and await the opening of the Swords clinic at 10 a.m.; and if, in view of the hardship caused, he will request Dublin Health Authority to arrange that a dentist should visit Rush at suitable intervals to attend to children there.

I am not aware that any child has had to leave Rush at 8.15 a.m. so as to catch the only available bus which would enable him to attend the Swords clinic when it opens in the morning.

I am informed that, in order to suit their convenience, children in the Rush area who need dental treatment are normally notified to attend the dental clinic in Swords at 1 p.m., which enables them to travel by the 12.34 p.m. bus from Rush. The dental clinic in Swords is well equipped whereas there is no equipped dental clinic in Rush.

The location of dental clinics in the County Dublin area is primarily a matter for Dublin Health Authority and the present arrangements for dealing with children living in Rush seem to be reasonably satisfactory.
