Vol. 228 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Eel Fishery Licences.

12.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what increases in eel fishery licences have been granted for the Shannon within the past four years; and the reasons for granting these increases.

The numbers of eel fishing licences issued for the Limerick fishery district, which includes the river Shannon, for the years 1963 to 1966 inclusive were—47, 49, 48 and 51 respectively.

Boards of conservators are obliged to issue eel fishing licences on demand.

They must be rather busy with this Government and the way they are wriggling.

They did not start draining the Shannon yet.
