I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 13, 14, 15 and 16 together.

Approval in principle has been given to the proposal of Dublin County Council to provide traffic light signals at the Lower Kilmacud Road junction with Stillorgan Road. The county council have been requested to submit details of the proposed installation before inviting tenders.

The county council's proposals for the installation of signals at the Mount Merrion Avenue, White's Cross and Cabinteely junctions have been approved, subject to some modifications of a technical nature.

As a matter of interest, could the Minister say why it is necessary in this case to have Departmental approval for what appear to be minor domestic matters which could be appropriately discharged by the local authority concerned?

In the case of the last three, some technical modifications were required after the proposals were submitted to the Department.
