Vol. 228 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenant Purchase Legislation.

35.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will consider introducing legislation to enable tenants of long standing to purchase their homes on terms reasonable to them and to the owners.

In September, 1966, I asked the Landlord and Tenant Commission to inquire as a matter of urgency into the question whether persons not covered by the Landlord and Tenant (Ground Rents) Act, 1967, should be given the right to acquire the fee simple. The question of tenants of long standing purchasing their houses would come within the scope of this inquiry. The Commission invited submissions by public advertisement on 9th December, 1966, and they are now receiving evidence on the question.

I shall await the Commission's Report before considering the necessity for legislation on the subject.

Might I ask the Minister when the outcome of the inquiry will be known?

Very shortly.

The Minister is moving so fast that he got past Question No. 34 without my getting an opportunity of asking a supplementary. What I want to know is: will there be a law case about this photographer? Has the Minister any knowledge that there will be a law case in respect of the photographer who was assaulted?

I do not know what the Deputy is talking about. I am dealing with Deputy Treacy.

I did not get the time to ask a supplementary. The Minister is being very slick; I am not quite so slick.

There is one great difference: people believe Deputy Donegan when he says something.
