Vol. 228 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Adverse Trade Balance.

5.

asked the Taoiseach (a) the adverse trade balance on 31st March 1967; and (b) the deficit in the balance of payments on the same date.

The import excess on merchandise trade is provisionally estimated at £132.1 million for the twelve months ended March, 1967. A corresponding figure for the deficit on the balance of payments is not available as estimates for most of the constituent items are compiled only in respect of the calendar year. The deficit in the balance of payments for the calendar year 1966 is provisionally estimated at £16 million.
