Vol. 228 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Shannon Fishermen.

7.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is proposed to decrease compensation under the Fisheries Act, 1939 which will be payable in future to Shannon fishermen.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a question by him on 22nd February, 1967, in which I informed him that ex gratia payments under section 10 of the Shannon Fisheries Act, 1938 totalling £40,100 were agreed in negotiation with the fishermen concerned and paid out to them by the Electricity Supply Board in full discharge of their claims for compensation. The question of future payments of compensation by the Board to Shannon fishermen does not, therefore, arise.

May I compliment the Minister on not only referring to the previous reply but having the courtesy to give its substance to the House?
