Vol. 228 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Act Concessions.

22.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state, in respect of the Land Act, 1965, the concessions available to a disabled person who wishes to hand over his farm to the Land Commission.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the scheme of life annuities authorised by section 6 of the Land Act, 1965, which was brought into operation by the Life Annuity (Sale of Land to Land Commission) Regulations, 1967, dated 27th January, 1967. These Regulations, which are available to Deputies in the Library, deal in detail with the practical application of the scheme and I would refer the Deputy to them.

There is a special provision under the scheme whereby a qualified person in the incapacitated category may receive, in addition to the normal benefits, a supplementary allowance not exceeding £123 10s per annum until such time as he reaches the age of 70 or shall have been awarded a pension as a blind person under the Old Age Pension Acts.

An informal booklet has been prepared by the Land Commission for the guidance of landowners interested in the scheme and I shall arrange to have a copy sent to the Deputy.
