Vol. 228 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free Post-Primary Education.

18.

asked the Minister for Education if it is proposed to make free post-primary facilities available to diocesan schools and convents.

It is open to all recognised secondary schools to opt for my new scheme in respect of their day pupils and, as I have already announced, the vast majority of them have done so. In my speech to the House introducing the new scheme, I said that special consideration would be given to the case of pupils who attend certain boarding schools because the vocation they have set themselves makes their attendance at such schools necessary. I had in mind here especially diocesan colleges and juniorates. The matter is still under discussion with the appropriate authorities.
