Vol. 229 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disability Allowances.

56.

asked the Minister for Heath if he is prepared to introduce amending legislation to enable local authorities to pay applicants for disability allowance weekly payments without reference to family means.

In accordance with paragraph 112 of the White Paper on the Health Services and their Further Development, it is intended to introduce an amendment to section 50 of the Health Act, 1953, so that, in assessing eligibility for disablement allowances, account will be taken only of the applicant's means and any means of the applicant's husband or wife. The present provision for taking other relatives' means into account will be deleted.
