Vol. 229 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - CIE Steam Locomotives.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of steam locomotives in working order now held by CIE.

Since 1st April, 1963, CIE rail services have been operated exclusively by diesel power and the Board has no steam locomotives in working order now.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state what the position will be in the event of an oil embargo, when all our eggs are in the one basket?

That is a hypothetical question.

It is not a hypothetical question.

I do not know whether the Deputy wants us to go backward instead of forward in development.

We will not be able to go backward or forward if there is no oil. This is a nice kettle of fish.

We will work it out. It will still be Fianna Fáil who will be looking after the kettle of fish when all this is over.
