Vol. 229 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun Housing Project.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the Ballymun housing project, Dublin is expected to be fully completed.

The terminal date of the four year contract period is 14th February, 1969. Notwithstanding the considerable set-backs which occurred in the early stages of the contract due to weather conditions, to subsequent labour disputes and other causes, I am informed that to date, over 1,300 of the 3,021 dwellings in the project have been structurally completed; of these, 572 have been handed over to Dublin Corporation. The contractors who are now approaching the half-way stage, have recently expressed the view that, given a continuance of the current rate of output, they would hope to complete all of the dwellings within the contract period.

Will the Minister say when the next handover will take place in Ballymun?

I was not asked that.

Can you not say?

I was asked when it is expected to be completed. At present, it is expected that it will be completed within the contract period, which is, before 14th February, 1969.

Does the Minister not know that Dublin Corporation have been promised handovers in this regard months ago and have not yet got them and when does he say they will get them?

That is a separate question.

You do not know.

If the Minister for Agriculture could do as well in agriculture as he can in advising the Minister for Local Government, he would do all right.

I can advise when it suits me.
