Vol. 230 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Meath Housing Grant.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is proposed to pay the new house grant to a person (name supplied) in County Meath, as he has been living in the house for many months.

A certificate for payment of a reduced balance of grant in this case has been sent to the public utility society for signature. On return of this certificate to the Department, payment will be made.

Can the Minister say what is causing the undue delay in having matters like this grant attended to in County Meath in particular and can he say if there is a grave shortage of inspectors, because even works which have been notified as having been completed several months ago cannot be inspected? Sometimes a person has to wait as long as six months for inspection. Can the Minister say if there is any particular reason for this?

I have no indication that there is any undue delay here. Possibly because of the fact that there is a reduced grant, there may have been some delay. This may have had something to do with it. Some of the work was not up to standard. I do not know. If there has been a delay, I am not aware of it but if there has been a delay, it may have been due to this.

If I supply the Minister with a list of the people who have been waiting for a long time for attention, will he agree to have them attended to? I got no satisfaction from his Department when I sent this list to them.

If the Deputy sends the list to me, I will investigate it.

Thank you very much.
