Vol. 230 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will start on the extension of the water supply scheme at Dromahair, County Leitrim; and when the extension of the water supply scheme at Kiltyclogher will be carried out.

These extension schemes have been fully approved by my Department and I understand from Leitrim County Council that it is hoped to commence work on them shortly.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received a telegram from the householders of Boyle, County Roscommon, regarding the inadequate supply of water to the town; and, if so, what action his Department are taking to deal with the matter.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious position in respect of the water supply in the town of Boyle, County Roscommon; if there are any proposals in his Department to remedy the situation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 23 and 24 together.

The answer to the first part of both questions is "Yes".

I approved preliminary proposals for an improvement scheme for the town of Boyle on 13th April last. In addition a tender for pumping plant for the scheme was sanctioned by me on 21st instant.

Following discussions at technical level, between officers of my Department and the local authority it was agreed that revised proposals for the civil works section of the scheme would be prepared by the council and submitted as soon as possible.

There will be no unique delay in dealing with the council's further proposals when these come before my Department.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious shortage of water supplies in Cobh and the surrounding districts; if he will state the present position in regard to Cobh water supply improvement scheme; if it has been sanctioned by his Department; if tenders have been invited for carrying out the scheme; and, if so, the approximate date for starting the work.

I am fully aware of the importance of the Cobh water supply augmentation scheme and tenders for the civil works and filter plant contracts for the scheme have been approved by my Department. The urban council's loan applications to finance the scheme are, however, still under consideration and I am not yet in a position to say when a decision thereon will issue to the local authority.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Kilgarvin new water supply scheme, County Kerry.

No proposals have been submitted to my Department for a water supply scheme for Kilgarvin. I understand, however, that Kerry County Council are at present preparing preliminary proposals for a scheme to serve this area.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government the date on which his Department received application from Kerry County Council for the provision of an extra grant for rock excavation in connection with the Ballymacelligott group water scheme; and when he intends to sanction this application.

It is presumed that the Deputy's question refers to the Gortshanvalley group water scheme, Ballymacelligott.

On 24th June, 1966, an application was received from Kerry County Council for a loan of £7,000 to enable them to make supplementary assistance available to a number of group schemes throughout the county, including an amount of £1,550 for the Gortshanvalley scheme.

On 3rd August, 1966, my Department sanctioned a contribution of £500 towards the cost of increased pipe sizes on this scheme. However, no proposals have to date been received from the council in support of the additional amount of £1,050 specified in the loan application.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Reen-Kenmare group water scheme, County Kerry, for which applicants have paid in £450.

The design of this scheme was received recently in the Department and is being sent to Kerry County Council for approval.
