Vol. 230 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Derating of Lands.

33.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the position with regard to rating of a farmer whose valuation is £33 10s; and if he will get full derating on the first £20 and a reduced rate on the remaining £13 10s.

When valuation exceeds £33 the Rates on Agricultural Land (Relief) Acts provide for a primary allowance of four-fifths of the rates on the first £20 valuation, a supplementary allowance of three-tenths of the rates on the remaining portion over £20, and an employment allowance of £17 for each qualified adult workman. Thus a farmer with a valuation of £33 10s would be liable for rates on a valuation of £13 9s less the amount of any employment allowance granted.

(Cavan): That is exactly the position as it was 12 months ago.

How many employers would have over £33 valuation?

It all depends. I know some of them who employ more than one employee certainly.

Down in Rush, yes.

But it is not Rush Deputy McLaughlin is talking about.
