Vol. 230 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing of Dublin Family.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a Dublin married worker with two children, earning £12 per week (details supplied) is compelled by reason of the housing shortage to pay £6 5s per week for the tenancy of a three-roomed flat which consists of the upper part of an ordinary two-storey dwellinghouse built by means of State grant and local authority loans; how soon this family may expect to be rehoused by Dublin Corporation; and the statutory position regarding such obvious rent overcharging.

I am not aware of the circumstances of the case referred to by the Deputy. I am informed, however, by Dublin Corporation that they have received an application for rehousing from this person but that they are not in a position at present to say when this family may expect to be rehoused. The law concerning rent restriction is a matter for the Minister for Justice.
