Vol. 230 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Temporary Officers.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that certain offices established under local authorities for a long period of time have now been termed temporary; and, if so, what security can now be offered the holders of these offices.

Offices under local authorities are created either on a permanent or a temporary basis and I am not aware that any local authority has deemed any permanent office to be temporary. In regard to the second part of the question, the assignment to a temporary office of a person who is a permanent officer of the local authority does not affect the permanency of his employment. Termination of employment when the need for the temporary office ceases would only arise in the case of a person recruited as a temporary officer.
