Vol. 230 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Clerks of Works.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that local authorities are employing clerks of works for periods of three years only; and, if so, whether he proposes to rectify this uneconomic and inefficient employment practice.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. Clerks of works are appointed by local authorities to supervise building and civil engineering schemes and employment in each case is for the duration of the scheme for which the officer is appointed, regardless of whether this period is more or less than three years.
