asked the Minister for Finance on what grounds the customs authorities recently confiscated a book sent for pre-publication review to the editor of the Limerick Leader.

The book in question was legally detained by an officer of Customs and Excise under section 5 of the Censorship of Publications Act, 1946. The officer, however, overlooked the fact that, by concession, books addressed to newspaper editors are not normally detained. The book has now been released.
