Vol. 230 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Garda Station.

100.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the deplorable condition of the Garda station at William Street, Limerick; and, if so, when a new Garda station will be erected.

I am informed by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance that the Garda station at William Street, Limerick, while sound in structure, is approaching the end of its useful life and that no expenditure on improvements would yield worthwhile results. The living-in accommodation was declared unsuitable five years ago, and the members concerned were given permission to live out.

Efforts have been made for a number of years to obtain a suitable site for a new central Garda station, but while these are being actively pursued at present, they have not, so far, proved successful. I am not in a position to say when a new station will be provided.
