Vol. 230 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Planning Appeals.

6.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of (a) Dublin city and county and (b) the remainder of the country the number of appeals received by him under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963 in each year since 1st October 1963; the number of cases in which the appeals (i) were allowed and (ii) were rejected; and the number of inspectors engaged in hearing appeals in each of these years.

The information sought by the Deputy, in so far as it is readily available, is given in a tabular statement which I propose with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report. The information relates to the three years since 1st October, 1964, when the 1963 Act came into operation.

NOTES:

(i) Departmental records of appeal decisions are not related to individual planning areas and a break-down of the information given would involve the expenditure of an unjustifiable amount of staff time.

(ii) The figures given in Table (B) relate to the total number of valid appeals decided in the years in question and are not directly related to the figures in Table (A).

(C) Number of Inspectors dealing with Appeals:

Year ending 30/9/65: 7

,, ,, 30/9/66: 11

,, ,, 30/9/67: 14

NOTE: The figures are averages over the 12 month period but do not allow for the fact that Inspectors were also engaged on other work.
