Vol. 380 No. 10

Written Answers. - Cork Airport Extension.

24.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if the land for the extension to Cork airport has been acquired yet; and if the contract has been awarded.

The acquisition of land for the proposed extension to the main runway at Cork airport is being finalised at present. Some of the land for the runway extension is being acquired under voluntary agreement between landowners and my Department. The remainder of the land is being acquired by compulsory acquisition order under the Air Navigation and Transport Act, 1936.

The contract for the construction of the extension has not yet been awarded. Tenders for the project are being evaluated at present by Aer Rianta and it is expected that a contract will be placed shortly.
