Vol. 230 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Griffith Barracks Families.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number and size of families at present residing at Griffith Barracks, Dublin; if these families receive the same consideration as that given to similar size families on the Dublin Corporation waiting list; if they are being refused accommodation in the new Ballymun housing estate; and, if so, why.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that the number of families at present accommodated by the Dublin Health Authority at Griffith Barracks is eight. This includes five families of four persons and three families of three persons. There are also six single persons accommodated there. I understand that applications for rehousing from such families are considered by Dublin Corporation in conjunction with others on the waiting list, for any area for which they may apply, on the basis of the general housing priorities at present observed by the corporation.

Would the Minister kindly indicate what is the position in relation to the latter part of this question "If they are being refused accommodation in the new Ballymun housing estate; and, if so, why?"

If they are, they would be put on the basis of the normal priorities which the Corporation would apply in those cases.

Would the Minister not agree that it might be a question of not qualifying for the supplementary which is affecting those people?

No, I do not think I would.

Is the Minister stating definitely it is not?

No. I did not say that.

It is necessary for me to inform you that this has been the result.

If the Deputy knows, why is he asking me?

Is the Minister not aware that this is the case?

If the Deputy knows, why is he asking me? May I submit that the purpose of Parliamentary Questions is to elicit information from the Minister, not to tell him things?

You should tell that to Deputy Burke when he is praising Ministers and blessing them.

They are being deprived of housing accommodation.

Not as far as I am aware.

That is all right. I will check that tomorrow morning.
