Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sports Events in Rhodesia and South Africa.

9.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he is aware that Irish nationals plan to take part in sporting competitions in Rhodesia and South Africa; and whether the organisations concerned with these sporting events have been informed of the Government's attitude towards the racialist policy of both these regimes.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is that I have seen reports that Irish nationals may participate in certain sporting events in South Africa and Southern Rhodesia next year. The answer to the second part of the question is that in pursuance of the Government's policy of complete opposition to the denial of fundamental human rights in any country, they have on numerous occasions publicly declared that they are entirely opposed to the policies of apartheid of the Government of South Africa, and have also made it known that they do not recognise the racist minority regime in Southern Rhodesia.

This policy of the Government is of course well known to all Irish nationals, including the Irish nationals referred to by the Deputy.
