Vol. 230 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Exports.

7.

asked the Taoiseach the total number of cattle exported to Great Britain (a) in 1931 and (b) in 1966; and the reasons for the decline.

Domestic exports of live cattle to Britain numbered 687,897 in 1931 and 427,557 in 1966. Over the same period total exports of cattle to all countries, including the live equivalent of carcase and tinned beef, increased from about 770,000 to almost 1,020,000.

Ask one on that now.

Have the 2,000 cattle Haughey promised this time 12 months been exported to Germany yet? Did the farmers get the £12 more for their cattle since the Free Trade Agreement?

If you send them to West Limerick, they might stand a chance.

(Interruptions.)

The people are neglected in Limerick. There are no roads to the houses; it is a disgrace to any Government.

The Minister for Lands likens them to an ass.
