Vol. 231 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shelbourne Park Greyhound Track.

17.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if it is the intention of Bord na gCon to purchase Shelbourne Park greyhound racing track; if a deal involving about £400,000 is at present under consideration; if State funds are to be provided for Bord na gCon to complete this deal; if it is the policy of the Government that such deals should only be made with ministerial approval; if he has given his approval; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that negotiations are proceeding for the purchase of Shelbourne Park greyhound racing track by Bord na gCon. It is a matter for the Board to decide whether or not such a purchase should be made. No State funds have been sought by the Board for this purpose but they sought and obtained my approval in accordance with the Greyhound Industry Act, 1958, for an increase in their borrowing powers which enabled them to enter into the negotiations.
