Vol. 231 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - RTE Agricultural Programmes.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that time devoted to agricultural subjects on Telefís Éireann has been reduced in the present year to about one-third; and, if so, if he proposes to take any steps to rectify this situation.

I am aware that there is some reduction in the time devoted to regular agricultural programmes as scheduled by Radio Telefís Éireann. This year, however, all of these programmes will be shown at peak viewing time and will reach a wider farming audience. I have been assured by Radio Telefís Éireann that there will be no diminution in the impact of effectiveness of these programmes.

Could the Minister tell the House the number of hours devoted to agricultural programmes on Telefís Éireann in 1966 and the number of hours in 1967 up to date?

I could not give the Deputy the information to date but for the full year the figures are 42½ hours last year and 23 hours this year.

There has been a substantial reduction.

I said there had been a considerable reduction.

Question No. 16 postponed.
