Vol. 231 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Immigration into US.

5.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if his attention had been drawn to the report of the American-Irish Immigration Committee which held a meeting with Cardinal Cushing in Boston recently on the drastic reduction in US immigration visas issued to Ireland; and if in view of the urgency outlined by this Committee he will make suitable representations to US authorities or arrange to meet the Committe in New York for discussions with them on the matter.

I have seen the report to which the Deputy refers and have met representatives of the Committee.

Can we take it that the Minister for External Affairs was not at the Árd-Fheis?

He was not at the Árd-Fheis. He is looking after our interests in the United Nations.

He will be home on holidays for Christmas.

I can assure the Taoiseach that I did not hear his reply.

If Deputy L'Estrange would restrain himself it might help. The reply I gave was: "I have seen the report to which the Deputy refers and have met representatives of the Committee."
