asked the Minister for Defence whether there are any plans for the re-equipment of the Army at present; whether there is any agreed procedure whereby Army equipment is reviewed; and whether it is planned to make any purchases in France.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Equipment.
39.
I assume the Deputy is referring to defensive equipment. The equipment of the Army is kept under constant review and the provision of new equipment is a continuing process for which financial provision is made year by year in the vote for the Department of of Defence.
The sources of supply of defensive equipment are determined by the price and suitability of the items on offer and it is not possible, therefore, to indicate in advance whether purchases would be made from a particular country.
The question Deputy O'Leary asked was whether or not a decision had been taken to buy any in France.
"And whether it is planned," he says.
Yes.
No decision has been taken. I already said that in my reply.
