Vol. 231 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Undeveloped Land.

18.

andMr. Cluskey asked the Minister for Local Government the location and the amount of undeveloped land on the south side of Dublin city that could be utilised for the purpose of building houses and flats for working class families if proper sewerage facilities were available.

I am informed that generally speaking all the undeveloped land in the south side of Dublin city could, subject to planning requirements, be utilised for the provision of dwellings. Sewerage is not an obstacle.

Is the Minister not in a position to state the location of this land?

I do not know if there is any within the city area. If there is any such land within the city area, it is capable of being developed. There is no problem with regard to sewerage.

Does the Minister not know where this land is?

I do not know whether there is any at all or not.

This is the purpose of the question, to ask the Minister the location and amount of undeveloped land on the south side of Dublin city.

I do not know of any.

Would the Minister find out?

What is all this about the canal then?

That is the county.

Surely, since this question is addressed to the Minister, the Chair should direct him to reply?

What reply the Minister gives is not a matter for the Chair.

He gives none. Surely Deputies are entitled to some protection from the Chair as well as members of the Government?

Perhaps the Minister has not yet had sufficient time to ascertain the location of this land. Could we have an undertaking from him he will find out where the land is and the amount?

If there is any.

I want to know.

I do not know if there is any.

If you say there is none, all right. I want to know will you answer the question now or, if you want more time, we will give it to you. I will repeat the question next week.
