Vol. 231 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parapet of General Post Office.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance what investigations have taken place regarding the soundness of the parapet of the General Post Office; and if he is in a position to state the results.

The stonework on the facade of the General Post Office including the parapet but excluding the portico which will be dealt with early in the new year has been descaled and closely examined. It has been found that apart from some minor defects, due to weathering, which have already been made good there are three stones in the cornice, which along with the stone which broke in July last, it would be desirable to replace. No immediate danger attaches to these stones but it is intended to have the work of replacement carried out within the next three months.
