Vol. 231 No. 10

Written Answer. - Council of Europe Recommendation.

56.

asked the Minister for External Affairs what is the attitude of the Government with regard to Recommendation 504 on the political, social and civic position of women in Europe, which was adopted by the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe on 28th September, 1967; and whether he will instruct the Permanent Representative in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to vote in favour of the proposals contained in this recommendation.

While the Government appreciate the motives which inspired this resolution on the political, social and civic position of women in Europe, they cannot fail to recognise the existence of many practical difficulties in the way of full implementation.

The Permanent Representative has been instructed in accordance with this situation.
