Vol. 231 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dumping of Upholstery Fabric.

28.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that large quantities of moquette upholstery fabric are being sold on the Irish market by Belgian suppliers at prices far below the cost of production; and that as a consequence an Irish manufacturing firm (name supplied) are finding it difficult to maintain a fair level of employment for over 100 employees; and if he will take immediate and effective steps to prevent the home market for this product from being wide open to dumping.

A complaint that moquette of Belgian origin is being dumped on the Irish market has been received in my Department. The firm making the complaint has been asked to furnish the necessary supporting evidence to enable the complaint to be fully investigated.
