Vol. 232 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Garda Shortage.

130.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the chief superintendent of the Garda in Cork city informed Cork Corporation on 20th December that there was a shortage of manpower in the city; and if he will take steps to rectify this situation.

The shortage of gardaí in Cork city, referred to by the chief superintendent on 20th December, was caused by the temporary transfer of 22 gardaí from Cork city to the Border in connection with the enforcement of foot and mouth regulations. All these men have now returned to their stations.
