Vol. 232 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork City Itinerants.

52.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Justice if the Garda authorities in Cork city have been instructed not to issue summonses against itinerants in the north side of the city for obstruction of footpaths, wandering horses etc.; and, if so, if he will give the reason for such instructions.

No instructions have been issued that itinerants are not to be prosecuted where they commit offences. Directions were, however, recently given by the Attorney General, in particular cases that had been referred to him from Cork, that the evidence disclosed no offence and that, accordingly, prosecutions should not be be brought in those or similar cases.
