Vol. 232 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Electricity Supply.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that the people of Bonane, County Kerry are anxious to have an ESB survey carried out in the area; and if, having regard to the fact that in the draft development plan for County Kerry it was noted that in the Kenmare rural area 60 per cent of the people were without ESB connections, he will take steps to have a survey carried out as soon as possible.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that Bonane is in the Board's Tuosist rural area which was developed under the original rural electrification scheme during 1963. It is planned to start the re-canvass of the area under the rural post-development scheme next October and it is expected that applicants who accept the terms quoted and have their houses wired will be given electricity supply during the following spring.

The Board say that it is important that the maximum number of householders in the area should agree to accept supply during the re-canvass; the houses in the area are scattered and the refusal of some householders to take supply could have the effect of increasing the terms of the remaining consumers.

The Board's Kenmare rural area which comprises Kenmare town was developed under the initial rural electrification scheme in 1957. There was almost one hundred per cent acceptance of the Board's terms for supply.
